What is the function of your car's engine oil?

Engine oil has a very specific function; it allows:

  • Reduzir o atrito que causa o desgaste do motor
  • Reduzir a temperatura do motor
  • Garantir que o motor esteja vedado
  • Prevent engine corrosion
  • Garantir que o motor esteja limpo

Why buy Spheretech engine oil?

At Spheretech, we take the opposite approach to global operators, offering only so-called"reinforced", which use ultra-high performance components, without exclusively considering cost price.

In this way, the lubricant becomes a kind of "seguro" para o motor in the various cases of "limited" lubrication present in daily vehicle use, such as cold starts, E85 ethanol use, turbo with the engine off, high stresses and the need for extreme protection.

As 3 tecnologias de ponta SphereTech

Spheretech drew inspiration from the industrial approach to lubricant oils in the automotive segment, offering 3 cutting-edge technologies:

⚫ BLACK OIL
Micropartículas de carbono/grafite. Excelente para altas temperaturas e cargas pesadas.
⚪ WHITE OIL
Ceramic microparticles (boron nitride). Reduces friction and temperature.
🟢 GREEN OIL
Liquid tungsten (OrganoTungsten). Exclusive molecular lubrication technology.

White engine oil: White Oil

The WHITE OIL range consists of 100% synthetic engine lubricants, "reinforced" with ceramic microparticles. White Oil is Spheretech's iconic ceramic oil, formulated with ultra-high quality chemical additive packages, enhanced by physico-chemical additives containing boron nitride (ceramic), which gives it its exclusive white colour.

Graphite engine oil: Black Oil

The BLACK OIL range consists of 100% synthetic engine lubricants, reinforced with carbon/graphite microparticles. Combined with specific viscosities, they ensure exceptional lubrication and protection.

As viscosidades disponíveis

With these technologies and different viscosities, Spheretech caters to a wide range of applications and clients:

TecnologiaViscosidades disponíveis
BLACK OIL (Grafite)5W40 · 10W50 · 20W50
WHITE OIL (Ceramic)0W20 · 5W30 · 0W40 · 10W60 · 75W90 (caixas e pontes)
GREEN OIL (Tungsten)5W50

Understanding engine oil viscosity grades

When starting the car, the oil is still cold. However, it needs to circulate immediately through all systems to lubricate before the engine reaches operating temperature.

The engine oil marking standard is indicated by two numbers separated by the letterW (from Winter). Therefore, the lower the number before the letter W, the more fluid the engine oil will be when cold and consequently at startup. The higher the number after the letter W, the more viscous the engine oil will be when the engine reaches its maximum temperature.

What does the 5W30 classification mean?

A very fluid oil does not need to reach a high temperature to lubricate. This can be useful in winter, in cold climates and for engines with tight clearances.

  • -10°C = 25W · -15°C = 20W · -20°C = 15W
  • -25°C = 10W · -30°C = 5W · -35°C = 0W

The higher the number after the W, the more viscous the oil, which improves protection and sealing. On the other hand, the lower the number, the more fluid and economical the oil.

Tenha em conta que a viscosity is not everything. Engine oils are formulated based on various oils and different additives that specifically improve the properties of each type of base oil.

Oils for petrol and diesel engines

Oils for petrol and diesel engines have combined designations, such as ACEA A3/B4 or ACEA C3. "A" designates petrol engines, "B" diesel engines and "C" engines with modern exhaust aftertreatment systems. SphereTech oils are Low SAPS, which means they are lubricants with low levels of sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur.

Buying engine oils at Spheretech means having access to technologies that would cost double in traditional retail chains.
