Specialized service · AdBlue / SCR

The AdBlue has failed.
The clock is ticking.

The AdBlue (SCR) system reduces NOx emissions in Euro 6 diesels. When it fails, the vehicle enters a kilometre countdown and may become immobilized. Professional intervention resolves the problem and restores normal operation.

What is AdBlue

The liquid that neutralizes toxic gases

AdBlue (DEF - Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is a solution of 32.5% pure urea and 67.5% demineralized water. It is not a fuel additive — it has its own injection system directed into the SCR catalyst after the exhaust, where it chemically reacts with Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) to convert them into pure Nitrogen and water vapour.

⚠️ Warning: Kilometre lockout

If the AdBlue tank runs empty or the system fails, by environmental law, the engine will not restart after being turned off. Crystallization of the liquid can damage the injector, pump and entire AdBlue circuit.

Failure symptoms

How to know if your vehicle needs attention?

  • AdBlue warning on the instrument panel
  • Countdown of kilometres or starts
  • Message "Unable to start in X km"
  • SCR warning light on
  • "Check anti-pollution system" message
  • Vehicle refuses to start after shutdown

Consequences

What happens if you ignore the warning?

The AdBlue system is regulated by law. Ignoring warnings is not an option — the vehicle will immobilize. And system failures become progressively more expensive over time.

  • Total vehicle immobilization — won't start without repair
  • AdBlue pump replacement — between €800 and €2,000
  • AdBlue injector replacement — between €300 and €800
  • Crystallization that damages the entire circuit
  • Tank contamination if mixed with diesel
